What this mic test checks
The test confirms your browser can reach your microphone and shows a live level meter and waveform as you speak. It also reports the microphone’s name, sample rate and channels, and whether echo cancellation, noise suppression and auto gain are on. If something is wrong, it tells you the most likely cause and how to fix it.
What each tab does
- Live: the level meter, waveform and readings
- Record: record up to 10 seconds and play it back to hear how you sound
- Noise check: stay silent for 3 seconds and get a Quiet, Moderate or Noisy rating for your room
If it works here but not in your app
- Pick the same mic in the app. Zoom: Settings › Audio › Microphone. Microsoft Teams: Settings › Devices › Microphone. Google Meet: More options › Settings › Audio. Discord: User Settings › Voice & Video › Input Device.
- Check the app isn’t muted, including push-to-talk in Discord.
- Allow the app in your system’s privacy settings. Windows: Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone, including Let desktop apps access your microphone. Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
- Check the input volume. Windows: Settings › System › Sound › Input. Mac: System Settings › Sound › Input.
- Close other apps that might hold the mic, then restart the call app.
When to use it
